He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is Love. 1 John 4:8
OPENING STATEMENT by Robert
Divine love to the brethren should constrain ours: Beloved (I would adjure you by your interest in my Love to remember), if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. The other of God’s children have been lead by a false spirit into the wilderness, giving Satan an advantage as the Tempter. As he has them alone, no friend to assist in prayer when he places his
temptations before them. Observe, in an earlier article, we were shown our vulnerability comes due to ignorance of our Enemy’s strengths. (1 John 4:11).
When I look at God’s children who remain in the world under Satan’s captivity, I pray for the Lord to allow me to see what it is that has captured their souls. I base that prayer on the information the Holy Spirit revealed to me earlier in my time of meditation. God sees all of us as His children, some as His Flock of sheep flourishing in the green pastures He has placed us in.
As people, It is terrible not to do good ourselves; but it is worse to hinder those who would do good. Those cautions and counsels are most likely to be accepted, which are seasoned with Love. Follow that which is good, for he that doeth good, as delighting therein is born of God.
Have you ever been around sheep? I have, and because I have, I now understood
why God called us His sheep. To emphasize this point, I watched a flock of sheep stand by a pool of water and not one of them went to drink until one was lead to the pool to drink, then the rest followed. I saw how stubborn and unmoving they can be. As well as how they are oblivious to the danger which surrounds them.
I recognized how important a strong Shepherd was required to guide and protect them. Evil-workers vainly pretend or boast acquaintance with God. Let us not
follow that which is proud, selfish, and of bad design, though the example may be given by persons of rank and power; but let us be followers of God, and walk-in Love, after the example of our Lord. This knowledge is essential, as we become the kindness and Love of God appearing in their lives, knowledge which temptation the Tempter has placed before them. Not now, knowing, what places so much fulfilment in their lives, they willingly turn their backs on God? Is it one of the three basics in man’s foundation without God, Money, or Health, and finally Vanity (the world’s opinion)? Or is it all three or some other combination that allows them to reject God’s teachings?
OPENING PRAYER by Robert
Heavenly Father, Abba, I place before your throne this petition to bring before your throne if it is your will, Lord. Teach those before you Father the lessons through your compassion how to recognize, receive, harbour and share your Love as Shepherds of your many flocks. As gifts Lord have the Holy Spirit, bring teachings of how to demonstrate your Love to those in the darkness of this world. Be our Shepherd Father, guide us to your fountain of eternal life, filled with your Love, which is you, Lord, this I pray in your name Yeshua, Amen and, Amen.
CLOSING STATEMENT by Robert
From the high and heavenly descent of Love: For Love is of God. He is the fountain, author, parent, and commander of Love; it is the sum of his law and gospel: And every one that loveth (whose spirit is framed to judicious holy Love) is born of God, 1 John 4:7. The Spirit of God is the Spirit of Love. The new nature in the children of God is the offspring of his Love: and the temper and complexion of it is Love. The fruit of the Spirit is Love (Galatians 5:22). Love comes down from heaven.
Commentary on 1John 4:7 by Matthew Henry brings forward the information and knowledge needed to comprehend, understand, and receive God’s heavenly Love.
Love argues a true and just apprehension of the divine nature: He that loveth knoweth God, 1 John 4:7. He that loveth not knoweth not God, 1 John 4:8. What attribute of the divine Majesty so clearly shines in all the world as his communicative goodness, which is Love.
The wisdom, the greatness, the harmony, and usefulness of the vast creation,
which so fully demonstrate his being, do at the same time show and prove his Love; and natural reason, inferring and collecting the nature and excellence of the most absolute perfect being, must collect and find that he is most highly good: and he that loveth not (is not quickened by the knowledge he hath of God to the affection and practice of Love) knoweth not God; it is a convictive evidence that the sound and due knowledge of God dwells not in such a soul; his Love must needs shine among his primary brightest perfections; for God is Love (1 John 4:8), his nature and essence are Love, his will and works are primarily love.
Not that this is the only conception we ought to have of him; we have found that he is light as well as Love (1 John 1:5), and God principally loves to himself, and he has such perfections as arising from the necessary Love he must bear to his necessary existence, excellence, and glory; but Love is natural and essential to the divine Majesty: God is Love.
We now hear from John Calvin through his commentary on 1John 4:8 “He also sets in opposition to this, according to his usual manner, the contrary clause, that there is no knowledge of God where there is no love. And he takes as granted a general principle or truth, that God is Love, that is, that his nature is to love men. I know that many, reason more refinedly and that the ancients especially have perverted this passage to prove the divinity of the Spirit.
But the meaning of the Apostle is simply this, — that as God is the fountain of Love, this effect flows from him, and is diffused wherever the knowledge of him comes, as he had at the beginning called him light because there is nothing dark in him. Still, on the contrary, he illuminates all things by his own brightness. Here then, he does not speak of the essence of God but only shows what he is found to be by us.
This should be a powerful argument. The example of God should press us. We should be followers (or imitators) of him, as his dear children. The objects of divine Love should be the objects of ours.
Shall we refuse to love those whom the eternal God hath loved? We should be
admirers of his Love, and lovers of his Love (of the benevolence and complacency that are in him), and consequently lovers of those whom he loves. The general Love of God to the world should induce a universal love among mankind. That you may be the children of your Father who is in heaven. For he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good. And sendeth his rain on the just and on the unjust (Matthew 5:45).
The peculiar Love of God to the church and to the saints should be productive of a peculiar love there: If God so loved us, we ought surely (in some measure suitably thereto) to love one another.
Remember, these articles are given as warnings from a humble servant as God’s
Watchman bringing His warnings to the flock of impending dangers. I pray for all to be covered with Yeshua’s blessings. Be at peace and in faith as you journey forward doing God’s calling and work. As Yeshua said, be as wise as a serpent and gentle as a dove. Times are now, we must all be aware of our surroundings, and who it is we are dealing with. “And Yeshua through the Holy Spirit said unto me, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”
