A Watchman’s position in the Assembly of God, is to warn sinners of impending misery and danger.
He must warn the wicked to turn from their way, that they may live.
Show what those, who make excuses for sin, or flatter sinners, or encourage them to believe they shall have peace, though they continue in sin will suffer as a consequence.
If souls perish through the neglect of Christian duty, those who walk that path bring guilt upon themselves.
How much wiser are men in their temporal than in their spiritual concerns! They set Watchmen to guard their houses, and sentinels to warn of their enemies’ approach, but where the everlasting happiness or misery of the soul is at stake, they are offended by a faithful warning; they would rather perish, listening and having their ears tickled and go on in their luxurious sins. To rational and justify their sinful way they attempt to share the water from the well from within the pasture they are grazing in.
The mistake many make interpreting this chapter, they look at the worldly as being the only sinners spoken of and miss those in the Assembly, who are being identified as a part of those sinners as well, most forget sin is sin even with those walking in the light of Salvation. And will remain sin until recognized, rebuked repented of, and placed before the throne of God seeking his forgiveness.
The Watchman’s duty is dedicated to the flock and its future. His service to God is to act as a Shepherd knowing what lay’s ahead for the flock, and is shown some within the flock have strayed and need to be warned to heed and change their walk and return to graze with the flock.
A Watchman is not a Pastor, Minister, Priest, Teacher or Evangelist. He is a God appointed spiritual Shepherd of the flock, nothing more. The warnings he issues, are God’s messages as the Watchman’s gentle tapping of his staff, so those who have strayed will recognize they are out of sync with the flock, recognize the gentle tap heed the warning and rejoin the flock.
The Watchman is God’s gentle but firm messenger sharing warnings about where the flock is and where some within the Assembly may be headed.
A strong Shepherd will continue to guide the flock to areas in the pasture where the grazing is most beneficial. Allowing the flock to graze in a fresh field providing more food for the soul to be consumed enabling the soul to discern the message, and make the necessary corrections.
That is when the Watchman’s duty is done. In my estimation this is the most difficult time, as watching those warned, refuse help. It is like being a candle in the darkness where everyone there, is trying to blow your flame out. Because in their minds they are worshipping in righteousness and continue their journey believing all is righteous in their walk.
Note: the millions who came out of Egypt and wandered 40 years as they were removed by God, because in their minds they believed they were righteous, with the exception of one, from the millions, who abided with God entered the promised land. God purges sin and sinners from His Assembly.
Here is where discernment for many should kick in. It becomes clearer who the Lord is perceiving as sinners and is deeply grieved by it.
Even after being warned some in the flock ignore the warnings and continue like swine wallowing in their concoction of luxurious sin, ignoring the truth.
The Holy Spirit also asked if I was prepared to receive truth and then asked what was I going to do with it once I received it? His next question, did I really understand what it truly stood for and its power within my journey and working out my Salvation?
The one who listens to you listens to Me, and the one who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects the one who sent Me; Luke 10:16.
Blessings to all who pasture in the meadows the Watchman has guided them to graze in. Find comfort peace and the living water.
