The darkness which has descended into our world has brought about a level of sin and debauchery most have trouble discerning. As the world puts it; “wrapping their minds around it”.
The Lord specifically stated for us not to cast our pearls amongst the swine lest it be trampled. In other situations he has told us to be silent and let the evil Play out. Yet he sends us forth into that darkness as His strong light breaking forward, lighting the path into the darkness, revealing the sins many have stumbled on. So they might recognize them and see the light as their guidance out of their imprisonment.
1 Peter 2:15-16 KJVS
For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.
What a glory is it for a Christian, when that mouth which would fain open itself against him, cannot find any evil in him to speak of!
Faith works by, and must be seen in love, of God for himself, and of men for God’s sake. It is folly to talk of things of which we know nothing, and to undertake what we are no way fit for. I question if this is not a message to those who claim to be distinct individuals yet maintain a worldly connection?
We are not to consent to any words as wholesome, except the words of our Lord Jesus Christ; to these we must give unfeigned consent. Commonly those are most proud who know least; for they do not know themselves. Hence come envy, strife, railings, evil-surmisings, disputes that are all subtlety, and of no solidity, between men of corrupt and carnal minds, ignorant of the truth and its sanctifying power, and seeking their worldly advantage.
All are the servants of God who are not slaves of sin and Satan. All gospel truth is according to godliness, teaching the fear of God. The intent of the gospel is to raise up hope as well as faith; to take off the mind and heart from the world, and to raise them to heaven and the things above.
How excellent then is the gospel, which was the matter of Divine promise so early, and what thanks are due for our privileges! Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God; and whoso is appointed and called, must preach the word.
Grace is the free favour of God, and acceptance with him. Mercy, the fruits of the favour, in the pardon of sin, and freedom from all miseries both here and hereafter. And peace is the effect and fruit of mercy. Peace with God through Christ who is our Peace, and with the creatures and ourselves. Grace is the fountain of all blessings. Mercy, and peace, and all good, spring out of this.
Note: Those with one foot in the world; riches are only shadows of worldly comforts which will fly away, at their own making.
They have in themselves the principles of corruption. They will leave you in grief, and vexation if you set your heart on them.
