“TWO PURPOSES, WITH TWO CHOICES!”

Strange how a plant can have two opposite meanings to it as well two distinct types of blossoms, one stimulating thoughts of bravery and dedication to country and its way of life as pictured here.

The other a life of horrors despair and eventual death outside of the eternal life. It makes one wonder how a plant holding so much beauty can have such diversified results. As I pondered this picture, I began to recognize the Lord has placed many decisions before us that have two choices offered.

That is why when we are born again in the spirit, we receive the spirit of discernment affording us the ability to learn God’s wisdom and discern how the world’s wisdom is lacking and leads to death separated from Yeshua.

Philippians 1:21-23 KJV
For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. [22] But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labor; yet what I shall choose, I know not. [23] For I am in a strait between the two, having a desire to depart and to be with Christ, which is far better;

Death is a great loss to a carnal, worldly man, for he loses all his earthly comforts and all his hopes; but to a true believer it is gain, for it is the end of all his weakness and misery. It delivers him from all the evils of life and brings him to possess the chief good.

The apostle’s difficulty was not between living in this world and living in heaven; between these two there is no comparison; but between serving Christ in this world and enjoying him in another. Not between two evil things, but between two good things; living to Christ and being with him. See the power of faith and of Divine grace; it can make us willing to die. In this world we are compassed with sin; but when with Christ, we shall escape sin and temptation, sorrow, and death, forever. But those who have most reason to desire to depart, should be willing to remain in the world as long as God has any work for them to do. And the more unexpected mercies are before they come, the more of God will be seen in them.

The present graces and comforts of the Spirit are earnests of everlasting grace and comfort. And though God is with us here, by his Spirit, and in his ordinances, yet we are not with him as we hope to be. Faith is for this world, and sight is for the other world. It is our duty, and it will be our interest, to walk by faith, till we live by sight. This clearly shows the happiness to be enjoyed by the souls of believers when absent from the body, and where Jesus makes known his glorious presence.

We are related to the body and to the Lord; each claims a part in us. But how much more powerfully the Lord pleads for having the soul of the believer closely united with himself! Thou art one of the souls I have loved and chosen; one of those given to me. What is death, as an object of fear, compared with being absent from the Lord!

The believer not only is well assured by faith that there is another and a happy life after this is ended, but he has good hope, through grace, of heaven as a dwelling-place, a resting-place, a hiding-place. In our Father’s house there are many mansions, whose Builder and Maker is God.

Those who, when in trouble, can truly rejoice in God, shall soon have cause greatly to rejoice in him. The grace of meekness contributes to the increase of our holy joy. The enemies who were powerful shall become mean and weak. To complete the repose of God’s people, the scorners at home shall be cut off by judgements. All are apt to speak unadvisedly, and to mistake what they hear, but it is very unfair to make a man an offender for a word. They did all they could to bring those into trouble who told them of their faults. But He that redeemed Abraham out of his snares and troubles, will redeem those who are, by faith, his true seed, out of theirs.

It will be the greatest comfort to godly parents to see their children renewed creatures, the work of God’s grace. May those who now err in spirit, and murmur against the truth, come to understanding, and learn true doctrine. The Spirit of truth shall set right their mistakes and lead them into all truth. This should encourage us to pray for those that have erred and are deceived. All who murmured at the truths of God, as hard sayings, shall learn and be aware what God designed in all. See the change religion produces in the hearts of men, and the peace and pleasure of a humble and devout spirit.
