The third commandment Exodus 20:7
Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
We must keep in mind the objective of this research. Discovering those things which Satan uses as tools against our ignorance of God’s laws.
Man had a Maker to love before he had a neighbour to love. It cannot be expected that he should be true to his brother, who is false to his God. The first commandment concerns the object of worship, JEHOVAH, and him only. The worship of creatures is here forbidden. Whatever comes short of perfect love, gratitude, reverence, or worship, breaks this commandment. Whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. The second commandment refers to the worship we are to render to the Lord our God.
The Third commandment concerns the manner of worship, that it be with all possible reverence and seriousness. All false oaths are forbidden. All light appealing to God, all profane cursing, is a horrid breach of this command. It matters not whether the word of God, or sacred things, all such-like things break this commandment, and there is no profit, honour, or pleasure in them. The Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
But the spiritual import of this command extends much further. All kinds of superstition are here forbidden, and the use of mere human inventions in the worship of God.
We find the tools Satan uses to bring men to a place God’s name in a place where it’s vain, thus rendering it idle or useless, Satan will bring men into the following positions even to the point of enjoying these actions Romans 1:29-32 KJV
Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
I remind you of the article I released https://romboughrobert.com/2022/02/16/luxurious-sin-revealed-will-you-justify-it-or-vacate-it-3/
This article reveals how Satan uses men’s emotions to ensnare them into a sin they cannot recognize as sin. We know a sinful nature leads to further sins some described earlier which places them in the position of making God’s name idle or useless.
We consider other areas Satan will use to bring men making God’s name idle or useless.
There is no reason to consider that solemn oaths in a court of justice, or on other proper occasions, are wrong, provided they are taken with due reverence. But all oaths taken without necessity, or in common conversation, must be sinful, as well as all those expressions which are appeals to God, though persons think thereby to evade the guilt of swearing.
The worse men are, the less they are bound by oaths; the better they are, the less there is a need for them. Our Lord does not enjoin the precise terms wherein we are to affirm or deny, but such a constant regard to truth as would render oaths unnecessary.
If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.
No man can be bound by his own promise to do what he is already, by the Divine precept, forbidden to do. In other matters, the command is, that he shall not break his words, though he may change his mind.
Here we see Satan placing individuals in situations they believe they must take or make an oath that is not necessary and in many cases nearly impossible to keep, thus making God’s name idle or useless. There are countless ways for Satan to cause men to take God’s name in vain. The more information brought forward the deeper each individual on 6heir own should continue researching scripture to discover more of Satan’s deceptions and lies which permeates our lives. Here is a caution to those who might believe they are not vulnerable to His deceptions, that belief is one of his deceptions and lies.
This article has just touched the tip of the iceberg to give you an inkling of our vulnerability. I encourage more research and constant assessments of your walk and relationship with Yeshua.
This is examples in the following We cannot honour God with our substance, unless it be honestly and honourably come by. It must not only be considered what we give, but how we got it. Where the borrower gets, or hopes to get, it is just that the lender should share the gain; but to him that borrows for necessary food, pity must be showed. That which is gone out of thy lips, as a solemn and deliberate vow, must not be recalled, but thou shalt keep and perform it punctually and fully. They were allowed to pluck and eat of the corn or grapes that grew by the road side; only they must not carry any away. This law intimated what great plenty of corn and wine they should have in Canaan. It provided for the support of poor travellers, and teaches us to be kind to such, teaches us to be ready to distribute, and not to think every thing lost that is given away. Yet it forbids us to abuse the kindness of friends, or to take advantage of what is allowed. Faithfulness to their engagements should mark the people of God; and they should never encroach upon others.
