Psalm 18:6 KJV
In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.
In threatening times, our care should not be so much that troubles may be prevented, as that we may go on with cheerfulness and courage in our work and duty.
We should not pray, Lord let us go away from our work, now that it is become dangerous, but, Lord, give us thy grace to go on stedfastly in our work, and not to fear the face of man.
Those who desire Divine aid and encouragement, may depend upon having them, and they ought to go forth, and go on, in the strength of the Lord God. God gave a sign of acceptance of our prayers.
The place was shaken, that our faith might be established and unshaken. God will give us greater degrees of his Spirit; and all will be filled with the Holy Ghost, more than ever; by which we are not only encouraged, but enabled to speak the word of God with boldness.
When we find the Lord God helping us by his Spirit, we know we shall not be confounded, Isaiah 17.
The Spirit of grace will work such a strong faith in us, and does away all further doubt; Paul and Silas knew by the Spirit, that a work of God was wrought in them.
When sinners are thus converted, they will love and honour those whom they before despised and hated, and will seek to lessen the suffering they before desired to increase.
When the fruits of faith begin to appear, terrors will be followed by confidence and joy in God.
A peaceful conscience, a lively hope, and the consolations of the Holy Spirit, can keep men calm in the full prospect of death; even those very persons who have been most distracted with terrors on that account. God’s time to help, is when things are brought to the last extremity.
Recoveries from sickness, releases out of trouble, are granted, not that we may enjoy the comforts of life, but that God may be honoured with the services of our life. It is not for the preachers of Christ’s gospel to retire into corners, as long as they can have any opportunity of preaching in the great congregation.
They must preach to the lowest, whose souls are as precious to Christ as the souls of the greatest. Speak to all, for all are concerned.
Speak as those who resolve to stand to it, to live and die by it. Speak all the words of this heavenly, divine life, in comparison with which the present earthly life does not deserve the name.
These words of life, which the Holy Ghost puts into your mouth. The words of the gospel are the words of life; words whereby we may be saved. How wretched are those who are vexed at the success of the gospel! They cannot but see that the word and power of the Lord are against them; and they tremble for the consequences, yet they will go on.
Believers have joy or sorrow, according to their sight of Christ, and the tokens of his presence. Sorrow is coming on the ungodly, which nothing can lessen; the believer is an heir to joy which no one can take away.
May our Father in heaven and Yeshua bless you with their Love, Compassion, Grace and Peace.
